Keeping Baby Cool: Summer Bedding Tips for Sweet Dreams

When the weather warms up, your baby's bedding needs a seasonal refresh. At NoJo, we know that safe baby sleep starts with the right materials—especially in summer. Use these tips to adjust your baby’s bedding for summer, keep them cool at night, and maintain a comfortable nursery temperature for better sleep.

Summer bedding should be minimal. A fitted crib sheet made of breathable cotton or muslin is best. Skip bumpers, blankets, and pillows to reduce both heat and SIDS risk. Many of our crib sheets are made from a cotton-polyester blend—a combination that offers the best of both worlds: softness, breathability, and long-lasting durability. These materials help reduce the risk of overheating while keeping baby comfortable.

Skip quilts and thick blankets. Instead, use a lightweight sleep sack, ideal for summer temperatures. Wearable blankets keep baby snug without trapping heat, and they follow safe sleep guidelines.

Stick to breathable sleepwear like:

  • Short-sleeved onesies
  • Lightweight pajamas
  • A muslin swaddle (for younger babies)

Keep the nursery cool.  Try to maintain a room temperature between 68–72°F (20–22°C). Here’s how:

  • Use a fan for airflow (not pointed directly at baby)
  • Close blinds or curtains during the day
  • Open windows in the evening if it’s safe and cool

Always check for signs of overheating:

  • Sweaty neck
  • Damp hair
  • Flushed skin
  • Fussiness or rapid breathing

Adjust clothing or the room environment if needed.

With breathable materials, light layering, and a cool nursery, your baby can sleep soundly—even in the summer heat. NoJo makes it easy to create a safe and stylish sleep space year-round.
